On May 29, 1968, people gathered for demonstrations and protest marches against the emergency laws, which were to be issued on May 30 by the German Bundestag. 1,500 people, most of them students, apprentices and some workers marched from Weddingplatz to Wedding Town Hall with loud chants and challenged workers to show solidarity with them. Without success. The motivation for the demonstration was an increasing concern that the emergency law could give the government extraordinary powers.
